Care home staff lied about the death of Derbyshire pensioner, a coroner has ruled.

Shirley Froggett fell from her wheelchair at New Lodge Nursing Home in Mickleover, Derby, an inquest heard.

The hearing was told she suffered a broken hip and died six weeks later, aged 84, after suffering an infection.

At her inquest, Senior coroner Dr Robert Hunter questioned witnesses on why Mrs Froggett was not strapped into her wheelchair when she fell, despite this being listed as a requirement in her care notes.

At the conclusion of the three-day hearing, Dr Hunter ruled that several members of staff, including then manager Lindsey Foster, lied about the incident when questioned by the authorities.

He said they claimed procedure was followed and that Mrs Froggett was secured with a lap strap.

He said Ms Foster made a statement to the Care Quality Commission, which said that Mrs Froggett had tried
