Derby stalker threatened ex with hammer after seeing holiday snaps of new man

A Derby stalker threatened to use a claw hammer on his ex-partner’s new boyfriend after “finding out the hard way” she had started a new relationship.

Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court heard how Steven Bromwich discovered the woman was no longer interested in him when he was showed photographs of her on holiday with someone else.

The 56-year-old, of Sinfin, “struggled to accept that” and began turning up at the victim’s home and sending her “nasty” letters.

And despite police becoming involved, matters escalated with the hammer threat outside her Borrowash property.

Handing him an 18-month community order, District Judge Jonathan Taaffe said: “Mr Bromwich, you need to get the message that she has moved on with her life.

“The aggravating features of this matter are the fact that you began a campaign over a lengthy period of time involving letters and visits to her property.

“You also have previous convictions
