A dog owner was threatened by a knife-wielding intruder who burst into their home and demanded they hand over their pet.

The suspect ended up fleeing the property empty-handed after he was bitten by the pooch, but not before inflicting superficial injuries to the owner's stomach.

The bizarre home invasion happened at a home in Ravenstone, near Coalville, on Thursday February 18.

The attempted theft is one is a series of dog-related crimes which has happened in Leicestershire in recent weeks. They include the theft of five bassett hounds and the theft of a cockapoo from boarding kennels.

The victim managed to give police a description of the intruder and officers investigating the distraction burglary are appealing for anyone who saw him in the Willars Way area of the village, or has any other information about the incident or those responsible, to get in touch.
