A new job centre is due to be set up in Derby, Derbyshire Live understands.

It comes after the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) agreed to take take over a property just off one of Derby's busiest roads.

Salloway Property Consultants says the DWP has taken over a building in Stores Road, off Sir Frank Whittle Road, near Pentagon Island.

The building was last occupied by Barclays Bank, but has been empty since September 2019.

Derbyshire Live understands the DWP is looking to use the building as a site for another job centre in the city.

When contacted by Derbyshire Live to confirm this, the DWP declined to comment.

It is understood that any announcement from the Government will be made between now and summer this year.

Hugo Beresford, of Salloway Property Consultants, said the move was a good boost for the city's commercial property market.
