Teachers' joy as students to be welcomed back to Derby's schools in March

All schools across England will return to face-to-face lessons from Monday, March 8 onwards - with the option of staggered return during that week.

News broken by Prime Minister Boris Johnson that secondary pupils will have to wear masks - at least initially - and parents will have to carry out lateral flow tests at home, is still being digested by teachers and parents alike.

More specific information and directives about schools and colleges, as well as universities, is expected in the coming days.

Meanwhile teaching unions are not happy that teaching staff will not be singled out for vaccination and are concerned not enough is being done to keep schools open.

Gemma Penny, head teacher at Allestree Woodlands School, said it would be good to see pupils back in classes, but warned it was early days to take on board all of the new information.
