Meghan Markle has been forbidden from wearing any pieces of historic Royal Family jewellery, it has been reported.

The ruling covers diamond necklaces, brooches and tiaras, according to The Sun.

The paper claims the ban has been approved by The Queen and backed by Prince William.

Among the priceless items is the Queen Mary Fringe Tiara, for example, which can also be worn as a necklace, and was made for Queen Mary in 1919.

The collection also includes jewels worn by Meghan's late mother-in-law Princess Diana, BirminghamLive reports.

Meanwhile, the Duchess of Cambridge has been pictured wearing pieces from the collection on multiple occasions, including The Cambridge Lover's Knot Tiara designed by Queen Mary, which became one of Diana's signature tiaras.

Sources claim the Queen's ban is not necessarily permanent and that Meghan could be allowed to borrow items in the future.

It is not
