A golf club captain has said hundreds of its members have been left devastated by a fire that destroyed its clubhouse - along with a host of trophies, photographs and other irreplaceable pieces of its history.
A blaze ripped through the Lutterworth Golf Club complex in the town’s Rugby Road on Saturday night.
Some 40 firefighters battled to contain the flames but the building has been left little more than a burned out shell.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway. The club, which dates back to 1904, has around 700 hundred members now.
Club captain Toby Deas, who had been playing the course earlier in the day, told LeicestershireLive: “We are all devastated with the loss of the clubhouse and all the history that goes with it.
