It seems more likely that some form of Covid certificate will be needed to travel abroad once restrictions are finally relaxed.

The earliest possible date for non-essential foreign travel from the UK is currently earmarked for May 17 but there have been calls from some concerned MPs to postpone the move.

However, top destinations in Europe are already gearing up for the return of British holidaymakers.

Boris Johnson has said his government is developing digital vaccine certification in time for "summer," with transport secretary Grant Shapps indicating the NHS app would be adapted to contain the necessary information.

European officials have also announced plans for an EU-wide "Green Digital Certificate" to be operating by the beginning of June, although it is not clear if this would be available to visitors from the UK.

This would allow anyone vaccinated against Covid, or who has tested negative, or recently recovered
