Luton Town did Derby County a big favour by holding Rotherham United to a draw on Tuesday night - but it might have been even better for the Rams.
If Rotherham had beaten Luton in their game in hand, they would have gone above Derby in the Championship table and put them in the relegation zone on goal difference going into the final weekend of the season.
But the goalless stalemate at Kenilworth Road means the Rams remain just outside the drop zone, fourth from bottom and now two points clear of the third-from-bottom Millers.
So, Wayne Rooney's side will have their fate in their own hands when they round off their campaign against fellow strugglers Sheffield Wednesday at Pride Park Stadium on Saturday (12.30pm kick-off).
