Driving menace injured cops after smashing into them on M1

A Derbyshire has been jailed for a series of driving offences, including injuring two police officers by driving into them on the M1.

Christopher Stephens, of Burton Road, Midway, was involved in two separate incidents with police which have now seen him jailed for eight months.

The first of these saw Stephens, who was disqualified from driving, lead officers from Swadlincote Police Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) on a car chase, Staffordshire Live reports.

During this chase he drove onto the pavement and at excess speed with his lights off, before going off-road and dumping his Vauxhall Agila in a car park in Church Gresley and running away on February 26.

However, this didn't stop officers who found his abandoned car an hour later and tracked down the 33-year-old and arrested him on suspicion of driving while disqualified, dangerous driving, driving without insurance and failing to stop.
