Prince Philip's official cause of death has been announced.

At the grand old age of 99, The Duke of Edinburgh's death has reportedly been recorded as old age.

The Duke died on Sunday, April 9.

Prince Philip had been admitted to hospital where he had undergone a heart operation. After a month-long stay in hospital, he and The Queen were reunited.

Despite this, The Mirror reported his cause of death as old age.

The Duke had spent the last year isolating with The Queen at Windsor Castle.

Following Prince Philip’s death, Prince Charles is to be designated the Queen's official "consort” and will join his mother for the ceremony on Tuesday, May 11.

Philip was the longest-serving consort in British history.

Alongside decades of royal duty, he had a military career, serving in The Royal Navy. He was one of the last surviving UK
