Why Spider Island was closed for six hours overnight

Derbyshire police have released information this morning explaining why Derby's Spider Island and nearby roads were closed overnight.

This morning the force tweeted to warn residents and motorists that roads near the busy roundabout were closed following a police incident.

A large corden was in place between Osmaston Road and Harvey Road with police officers telling people that the nearby gym was closed due to the incident.

A number of ambulances were also seen in the area.

Officers have revealed they were called to the scene from 1.10am following concerns of the safety of a man on a bridge.

The man was taken into hospital and the incident was resolved safely just after 7am.

A Derbyshire police statement says: "We were called just before 1.10am this morning (Wednesday, May 5) about a concern for the safety of a man on a bridge above Spider Island, Allenton.
