Waitrose has announced it is set to make a major change to nearly 500 of its fresh food products. The store is set to scrap 'best before' dates from its products in a bid to crack down on food waste.

The retailer says it will instead ask shoppers to use their own judgement when it comes to deciding whether a product has gone off or not. Waitrose is not the first supermarket to make this move, with Morrisons and Co-op among those already doing the same, and other stores expected to follow shortly.

The change will come into force from next month on almost 500 products. Items impacted by the change include packaged fruits and vegetables.
