Over 466,700 individuals have rallied behind an online petition by Age UK, urging the UK Government to overturn its decision to means-test Winter Fuel Payments. The charity initiated the campaign following Chancellor Rachel Reeves's announcement at the end of July, with the legislation being expedited through parliament on August 22, bypassing any debate or vote.

An estimated 10 million pensioners are set to lose out on this annual assistance for heating expenses unless they receive income-related benefits like Pension Credit. Age UK's 'Save the Winter Fuel Payment for struggling pensioners' petition highlights that the change in eligibility will affect millions of elderly people across the UK who depend on this additional aid to manage increased bills during colder months.
