Update 4pm 3/9/24: Dog walker, 80, who died after park attack named

An 80-year-old man who was seriously injured when he was attacked while walking his dog has died. Five children have been arrested in connection with the incident, which happened in Franklin Park, Braunstone Town, on Sunday evening (September 1 ).

The police inquiry into the attack, which happened at around 6.30pm near the park entrance in Bramble Way, has now become a murder investigation. Leicestershire Police have arrested five young people on suspicion of murder - two 12-year-old girls, one 12-year-old boy, a 14-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy.

Police said the victim was allegedly attacked by a group of "young people". The suspects fled the scene before emergency services arrived, said police.
