The Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) campaign has criticised the Government's recent efforts to increase Pension Credit uptake, demanding a solution to the unfair treatment of women born in the 1950s.
Following the new Labour Government's move to means-test the Winter Fuel Payment, which provides eligible pensioners with up to £300 to help with energy bills, campaigners are continuing their battle for "fair" compensation for women affected by past state pension alterations.
Yesterday, the DWP launched a campaign to increase Pension Credit take-up which could be worth on average £3,900 per year for successful applicants.
The campaign aims to spread awareness and increase claims for Pension Credit, which from this year will also automatically passport eligible pensioners to receive the Winter Fuel Payment.
An estimated 880,000 pensioners are currently eligible to apply for Pension Credit but aren't claiming it. 21
