Leicester university in the running for ‘Oscars of higher education’ award

A Leicester university is in the running for a national accolade widely considered the “Oscars of higher education”. The University of Leicester (UOL) as been shortlisted for the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) University of the Year award.

The biggest celebration of the higher education calendar, the event attracts hundred of entries from individuals, teams and institutions across the UK and Ireland, a UOL spokesman said. The University of the Year award is the “biggest prize on the night”, he added.

The university last won the award in 2008. University of Leicester president and vice-chancellor, Professor Nishan Canagarajah, said the nomination was “testament to the hard work of colleagues”.
