A man sent obsene messages to former Leicester MP Claudia Webbe during her time in office. Dean Tate is now behind bars after pleading guilty to two counts of sending offensive, indecent, obscene or menacing messages.

Tate sent the then Leicester East MP, who lost her seat in July’s general election, messages containing words which she said were “hateful and deeply hurtful”. The messages were sent via email to her office in October last year.

Tate appeared at Leeds District Magistrates Court on Tuesday (September 3) where he pleaded guilty to the two offences. Alongside a four-month prison term, he was handed indefinite restraining orders preventing him from contacting Ms Webbe and another woman, Florence Eshalomi, “by any means whatsoever”.
