Time is running out for struggling families to claim their share of over £57 million in free cost of living support.
The money, which is sourced from the Government's Household Support Fund from the last allocation period spanning April to September this year, was brought in by the former Conservative administration back in 2021, offering financial backing via local authorities with the mandate to lend a helping hand to those hit hardest by rising living costs.
Councils have been aiding residents through a variety of means such as direct cash grants or vouchers for energy and supermarkets. They must utilise these funds by September 30. But further funding is expected to be allocated until next April by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
A Freedom of Information (FOI) appeal to English councils by loan provider Creditspring has uncovered that an astonishing £57 million-plus remains untouched.
