Lincolnshire Police has released more information about an incident during which a dog was shot and killed in Lincoln. Officers were called to a report of a disturbance at 9.43am on Retief Close on Sunday, September 8.

Police say that two dogs were fighting, including a large brown dog from an address at Retief Close and another smaller dog at its home address in Queen Elizabeth Road. A man in his 30s was taken to hospital with injuries to his arm, which were caused by the large brown dog when he tried to intervene. Officers say his injuries are "not believed to be life changing".

To reduce the risk to the public, a specially trained police officer used darts to sedate the dogs - but the large brown dog was not affected and escaped over a bush into the street. This led to armed officers deciding to fatally shoot
