A derelict Victorian needle factory will be bulldozed after a scheme to build nine flats on the site was given the green light. The Laban Tansey building in Hinckley dates from the late 19th century, and is at the heart of a number of historic factories in the Druid Street conservation area.

Developer Andrew Reid has been given the go ahead by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council to knock down the building and clear courtyard areas, with a new three-storey block set to be built in its place. There had been only one objection made to the council about the scheme, which said the building was “one of the first and earliest factory premises to have been built and to survive to the present day” and praised it as “a vital part of heritage in the Druid Quarter”.
