Lincoln Cathedral fire caused by electrical fault as staff 'very grateful' to fire service

The cause of a fire at Lincoln Cathedral has been confirmed by the fire service after the historic building was temporarily evacuated. Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue were called to the cathedral at 10.26am on Sunday morning (September 15) following reports of a small fire in the electrical unit of the choir stall lights.

It was determined that the fire was caused by an electrical fault. Two crews from Lincoln attended the scene as well as crews from North Hykeham, Waddington and Market Rasen.

Just after midday, the cathedral posted an update on its social media noting that the building would be closed for general visitors for the rest of the day. The post reads: "We are very grateful to the members of Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue who attended the cathedral this
