Leicester golf course land could be used for 72-bed care home

Land at a city golf course is being eyed up for a new care home, documents reveal. The 72-bed home would be built off Gartree Road, in Stoneygate, on land owned by Leicestershire Golf Club.

The green space sits next to the course, with applicant Morrison Community Care describing it as surplus to the club’s requirements in documents submitted to Leicester City Council. Planning documents say the club needs around £1 million for a new irrigation system and would not be able to afford to do so if its agreement with the developer does not go ahead.

The new development will help preserve the wider course “for the next century”, according to the proposal. The applicant also stated there is a national shortage of care facilities which is expected to worsen over the next 15 years.
