National Grid has apologised for "slapdash" roadworks in a county town. The company has come under new criticism from both the public and politicians over its handling of the works on Welland Park Road in Market Harborough.

The project to "reinforce" the local network incurred fines from Leicestershire County Council earlier this month over delays branded "disgraceful" by some. Concerns for the safety of pupils returning to nearby Welland Park Academy at the start of the year were also raised at the time.

New claims have further been made by a local MP that the works caused damage to homes in the area. National Grid has now responded to the criticisms, apologising for the disruption and said it is speaking with residents impacted by the works.
