City mayor Sir Peter Soulsby has agreed to sell off a field for the Broadnook development to the north of Leicester. The city council owns the 30-acre field next to the gas distribution site off the A46, near Birstall.
The land, currently used for agriculture, will be sold for an undisclosed sum to Broadnook's developers, Barwood Land and Davidsons Homes. However, the 30-acre field is set to form part of phase three of the Broadnook project and probably will not be developed for at least five years, Leicester City Council has said. Phases one and two will see 1,375 homes built there, with a further 575 added through the third.
The local authority currently gets £2,700
