Derbyshire firefighter uses new skill to help woman in 'severe pain' and says everybody should learn it

A hero firefighter was called to the scene of a crash and acted as a "huge comfort" to a woman after using a recently acquired new skill to look after her. Ben Middleton, who was among 10 firefighters to complete a British Sign Language (BSL) course at Derby’s Royal School for the Deaf, was able to look after June Carol Lush at the scene of the incident on the A6 in Ambergate.

His colleagues recognised there was a communication issue, so Ben was called and looked after June until her daughter arrived to accompany her to the hospital.
