The mistaken early release of an abusive man left one of his victims “scared” and “really angry”, she has told LeicestershireLive. The woman said she had believed she had around one month more of knowing she was "safe" from Duanne Meggitt while he was behind bars.
Meggitt was not eligible for the Labour Government’s early release scheme. But the 32-year-old was one of 37 prisoners mistakenly let out of prison on Tuesday, September 10, in the first round of the programme, which saw inmates with shorter sentences being released after serving 40 per cent of their time behind bars. The second round of early releases takes place tomorrow (Tuesday, October 22).
