A prolific Derby criminal with an “appalling” record viciously beat a man with a variety of weapons during a savage and drunken assault. Derby Crown Court heard how Ashley Davey repeatedly punched the victim who then went to a bedroom. But the heavily-convicted 32-year-old attacked him a second time as he lay in bed using a fan and a mop which broke into three pieces, such was the force the defendant used.

The raging thug then head-butted a police officer who came to arrest him, racially-abused other officers and continuously spat all over the van which took him into custody.
