Leicester's Highcross bosses have claimed "natural wear and tear" is responsible for a cracked window pane that has been cordoned off on its walkway. They have also addressed the reasons that have led to an entire level of their multi-storey car park being shut to motorists too.

The pane, which is seen along Highcross' glass walkway over Vaughan Way, has been in its cracked state for at least two weeks according to shoppers. Images have shown the pane cordoned off, but the reason for it has not been revealed until now.

A spokesperson said “natural wear and tear” has led to a window pane cracking. They claimed the issue will be addressed as part of "routine maintenance", but it is not the only issue spotted at the shopping centre in recent days.
